Summary of Results
The Summary of Results section of CFO Scoreboard summarizes the key financial results of the company and provides a helpful thumbs up or thumb’s down icon to let you know if each metric is moving in the right direction. CFO Scoreboard compares the current time period to the previous time period. If you are viewing the report for a given month, the comparison is to the prior month; if you are viewing the report for a year or the current year to date, the comparison is to the same time period in the prior year.
Profit Comparison to Prior Periods
The Profits Comparison section contains a summarized income statement that shows how your business generated its profits. It compares the current time period to the prior time period and to the same time period the prior year.
Revenue Comparison to Prior Periods
The Revenue Comparison section shows how revenue in the current time period compares to the prior time period and to the same time period in the prior year.
Return on Assets - Comparison to Prior Periods
Return on Assets is a measure of how successfully your business uses the assets on your balance sheet to generate profits. The Return on Assets - Comparison to Prior Periods section of CFO Scoreboard shows how Return on Assets in the current time period compares to the prior time period and to the same time period in the prior year. Ideally you want this ratio getting bigger each time period since that would indicate you are improving your profits at a faster rate than you are growing your assets.
Note that if the drop down menu at the top of the Return on Assets section is set to “Show Return As OCF”, then the return is calculated based on Operating Cash Flow, or how successfully your business used its assets to generate operating cash flow.
Profit per Employee - Comparison to Prior Periods
Profit per Employee is a measure of how successfully your business uses the employees of the company to generate profits. The Profit per Employee - Comparison to Prior Periods section of CFO Scoreboard shows how Profit per Employee in the current time period compares to the prior time period and to the same time period in the prior year.
Note that if the drop down menu at the top of the Return on Assets section is set to “Show Return As OCF”, then this metric is calculated based on Operating Cash Flow, or how successfully your business used its employees to generate operating cash flow. Again, you want this ratio trending higher in each subsequent time period since that would indicate you are improving your Operating Cash Flow at a faster rate than you are growing your head count.
Return on Payroll - Comparison to Prior Periods
"Return on Payroll is a different way of looking at how successfully your business uses its employees to generate profits. Return on Payroll measures how successfully you are converting payroll “dollars” into profits. The Return on Payroll - Comparison to Prior Periods section of CFO Scoreboard shows how Return on Payroll in the current time period compares to the prior time period and to the same time period in the prior year.
